A bold surprise from Yellows Plus

A bold surprise from Yellows Plus

When an eyewear brand is famous for a particular style, it doesn’t mean it can’t successfully divert from that style every now and then. Take Yellows Plus. Celebrated mostly for their subtle designs, they also know how to deal with some bold acetate...

From day one, designer Toshiaki Yamagishi has been responsible for all collections of Yellows Plus. Yamagishi’s design language is one of muted colors and understated shapes. But don’t make the mistake of thinking this results in boring collections. Yellows Plus frames might not scream for attention, but their timeless designs and the attention that goes into the production of these frames (they are made by hand in Japan!) make them all the more interesting.

Hidden between all these subtle frames we found one example of a bolder style, that still fits perfectly in their minimalistic collection. Made from thick acetate in a strong black, smoky grey or transparent brown, this frame is different than the rest but at the same time still ticks most of the boxes of Yamagishi’s typical style. Yeah, it’s bold. But it is also clean, minimalistic and has a timeless feel to it. We love it! Do you?

A steamy start of 2022 for Anne & Valentin

A steamy start of 2022 for Anne & Valentin

Anne & Valentin is kicking off 2022 well with two new additions to their beautiful collection of glasses and sunglasses. These new frames are inspired either by steampunk or Art Deco and are a perfect addition to their colorful and interesting collection.

Anne & Valentin is known for their original collection of glasses and sunglasses. The way they combine prints and colors gives them a design language that is different than any other eyewear brand. With their limited-edition model Steampunk, Anne & Valentin created a pair of sunglasses that combines steampunk references without losing that typical Anne & Valentin touch.

Steampunk is best described as a subgenre of science fiction. The aesthetics of steampunk are inspired by 19th-century steam-powered machinery combined with retrofuturisme. Retro-what? Retrofuturism is a creative arts movement inspired by the way people from earlier times (from the 19th-century for instance) thought the future would look like. You can recognize steampunk designs by the use of lots of metal like copper and brass, elements of machinery and the use of found objects. It sounds like a far cry from eyewear but goggles actually play an important role in the steampunk movement: goggles protect your eyes from all the hot steam that is obviously involved with all this steam-powered machinery.

The second new model called Seena finds its inspiration in the Art Deco style that originated in the early 20th century. A style that isn’t that far removed from the steampunk vibes: both steampunk and Art Deco embrace industrialism and the machine-made. The fine double lines on the nose bridge and ear tips, and the subtle ornamental details give these sunglasses that typical Art Deco feel.

Hit the slopes with Bollé and Revo

Hit the slopes with Bollé and Revo

Winter sports season is here! If you have a trip to the snow planned in the coming months, don’t forget to check if your eyewear needs an update. If there is ever a time to protect your eyes, it’s when being outside in the snow all day…

When in the snowy mountains, UV-rays can get up to ten times higher than normal, so wearing sunglasses or goggles with high-quality glasses is not a luxury, it really is a necessity. These UV-rays can damage your eyes permanently. Not the kind of souvenir you want to take home from your holiday, right?

We want to highlight two brands here, that have had snow goggles in their collections for years now. They both work with the best athletes in snow sports out there, so you can be sure their goggles will work for you as well.

Let’s start with Bollé. This brand first added ski goggles to its collection in the 1960s. You can adjust the shield of your goggles to fit different weather conditions: from good weather to poor/night conditions. All shields are photochromatic and protect your eyes to the fullest while giving you the best visual conditions possible. You can even buy a Bollé ski helmet with integrated goggles!

Revo introduced the world to its first pair of ski goggles in 1996. Their shields have their famous special protective coatings and are of course photochromatic. Revo’s current collection of goggles was created together with Bode Miller, one of the most decorated male skiers in US history. Without a doubt, he knows how a good pair of ski goggles should perform in order for you to perform your best on the slopes.

Whether you go with Bollé or Revo, you can be sure you give your eyes the best protection possible with both brands. Enjoy your winter!

Ørgreen: colorful minimalism from Denmark

Ørgreen: colorful minimalism from Denmark

Clean lines and interesting use of color. If you were to sum up what Danish brand Ørgreen stands for, this might be the most accurate description. They recently launched a fresh campaign with which they introduced us to their new designs...

The Danish have been known for their strong design language for decades. Designers such as Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen have, amongst others, been popular for their furniture designs since the 1950s. Their minimalistic style resonates in the collections of Ørgreen Optics. Ørgreen glasses and sunglasses are minimalistic, functional and innovative. Oh, and don’t forget colorful. This brand develops all their colors in-house and comes up with surprising and interesting color combinations like shark skin grey with mat orange or orchid purple with rose gold.

The recent campaign shows us the new designs for the Quantum High collection (Ørgreen’s most lightweight collection), the HAVN collection (playful and colorful), and Imaginary Lines, which is a capsule collection of ultra-thin titanium models.

Just like we are used from Ørgreen, these new models are very light-weight and super comfortable to wear. With an Ørgreen frame you are not only getting yourself a frame that is really different in shape and color than most frames out there, you are also getting a frame that is going to last you a very long time thanks to the high quality of materials used and the craftsmanship that goes into the production.
