Lanvin does it with Paris Hilton

Maybe Paris Hilton wouldn’t be the first you expect to see in an advertising campaign for the chique and stylish Lanvin brand but, surprise surprise, the ‘famous for being famous’ it-girl stars in the S/S campaign of the Parisian fashion house..

Maybe you have to look twice as Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot photographed her in a way you haven’t seen her too often. The style refers to the society ladies of the fifties and pays tribute to the heritage of the brand while at the same time connecting it with Paris and a contemporary life in which influencers play their role. The campaign also marks the introduction of a complete new Lanvin eyewear collection which has been launched recently.

Sunny new collection from AM Eyewear

Sunny new collection from AM Eyewear

At the Nana Woody & John headquarters, it is still Winter. And it will take a few more months for the sun to come back. Come back from where? Well, AM Eyewear found the Summer sun hiding at Bali where they shot a beautiful - and sunny - new campaign...

The campaign centers around the new Kochi collection of sunglasses and optical glasses. And while Summer probably feels very far away for most of us, these images do give us a very nice first preview of what the SS22 trends in sunglasses will be.

AM Eyewear founder Simon Ponnusamy found inspiration for these frames during his last time traveling the world before the pandemic hit. He went on a pilgrimage to India where he encountered many facets of Indian culture and nature that enchanted him. There, he came across the most beautiful rare gems, crystals, and talismans. These are used in many cultures to enhance positivity and to focus on the right things in life.

Ponnusamy’s memories of this trip were translated into a collection brimming with new colors and shapes. AM Eyewear’s hope is that their frames can function as some sort of talisman for its wearer. Looking through the lenses can quite literally give you a new perspective on the world around you and a focus on the things that are important in life. A big task for a pair of glasses if we may say so. Well, luckily these frames also just make you look damn good.

The art of perfection and a new showroom to discover

The art of perfection and a new showroom to discover

Japanese eyewear manufacturer Charmant has a solid reputation when it comes to the production of high-quality frames and sunglasses in several materials and most of all in state-of-the-art titanium.

With it’s longlasting experience and craftmanship it is totally qualified to design and produce something really special. And that is exactly what Charmant does by launching a complete new collection called Minamoto.

Minamoto means ‘origin’ in Japanese. A very suitable name for this new eyewear brand, because Minamoto is all about honoring the long Japanese tradition of the design and production of eyewear. Inspiration for their titanium designs for men and women is taken directly from the historical collection of frames from the brand’s founder.

Minamoto's collections embody tradition and history, but in such a way that they are also unmistakably from our times. As they like to say: sometimes you have to look to the past to find your future.

Do you want to discover more of Minamoto? Have a look at the collection in our showroom!

A bold surprise from Yellows Plus

A bold surprise from Yellows Plus

When an eyewear brand is famous for a particular style, it doesn’t mean it can’t successfully divert from that style every now and then. Take Yellows Plus. Celebrated mostly for their subtle designs, they also know how to deal with some bold acetate...

From day one, designer Toshiaki Yamagishi has been responsible for all collections of Yellows Plus. Yamagishi’s design language is one of muted colors and understated shapes. But don’t make the mistake of thinking this results in boring collections. Yellows Plus frames might not scream for attention, but their timeless designs and the attention that goes into the production of these frames (they are made by hand in Japan!) make them all the more interesting.

Hidden between all these subtle frames we found one example of a bolder style, that still fits perfectly in their minimalistic collection. Made from thick acetate in a strong black, smoky grey or transparent brown, this frame is different than the rest but at the same time still ticks most of the boxes of Yamagishi’s typical style. Yeah, it’s bold. But it is also clean, minimalistic and has a timeless feel to it. We love it! Do you?

A steamy start of 2022 for Anne & Valentin

A steamy start of 2022 for Anne & Valentin

Anne & Valentin is kicking off 2022 well with two new additions to their beautiful collection of glasses and sunglasses. These new frames are inspired either by steampunk or Art Deco and are a perfect addition to their colorful and interesting collection.

Anne & Valentin is known for their original collection of glasses and sunglasses. The way they combine prints and colors gives them a design language that is different than any other eyewear brand. With their limited-edition model Steampunk, Anne & Valentin created a pair of sunglasses that combines steampunk references without losing that typical Anne & Valentin touch.

Steampunk is best described as a subgenre of science fiction. The aesthetics of steampunk are inspired by 19th-century steam-powered machinery combined with retrofuturisme. Retro-what? Retrofuturism is a creative arts movement inspired by the way people from earlier times (from the 19th-century for instance) thought the future would look like. You can recognize steampunk designs by the use of lots of metal like copper and brass, elements of machinery and the use of found objects. It sounds like a far cry from eyewear but goggles actually play an important role in the steampunk movement: goggles protect your eyes from all the hot steam that is obviously involved with all this steam-powered machinery.

The second new model called Seena finds its inspiration in the Art Deco style that originated in the early 20th century. A style that isn’t that far removed from the steampunk vibes: both steampunk and Art Deco embrace industrialism and the machine-made. The fine double lines on the nose bridge and ear tips, and the subtle ornamental details give these sunglasses that typical Art Deco feel.

A trend that is here to stay

A trend that is here to stay

We spoke about this trend in sunglasses before on NanaWoody&John, but in the last few weeks we’ve found some more nice examples that we just have to share with you. They prove this trend is not going anywhere soon. Let's have a look, shall we?!

So, we are talking about bold frames, but not bold in the way that they cover half your face like oversized glasses do. These sunglasses are smaller and end right above or on your cheek bones. They don’t overtake your face completely, but they are not subtle either. Made of thick acetate, either transparent or opaque, and with big temples. They come mostly in rectangular shapes, but we’ve seen some cool cat-eyes out there as well. These sunglasses have been around for a while now, and we’ve seen quite a few celebrities and influencers wearing them. The fact that fashion designers and trend-setting eyewear brands are still playing around with these types of frames, proves to us this trend is still very much alive.

On the 30th of June 2021 French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus showed his new collection for his label Jacquemus. A collection made in strong, plain colors with lots of color blocking and accessorized with big earrings, the small bags that are typical for this designer, and cool sunglasses in exactly the style we’ve been talking about above.

Another example we found at Gentle Monster, an optical brand form South Korea that recently launched their second collaboration with Ambush. Their sunglasses have more of a cat-eye shape and also illustrate the trend perfectly.

And then there’s Linda Farrow who has done a cool collaboration with Milan-based fashion label The Attico. Small but wide, rectangular shaped frames in bright colors or glamorous black and again with big temples.

Other brands who have these trendy sunglasses in their collection include AM Eyewear, Etnia Barcelona and Scotch & Soda. So many options to choose from... Have a look and get inspired!
