Take a dip in the ocean with Eque.M

Japanese designer Eque.M has been designing eyewear for almost twenty years. He made his first steps in the world of eyewear in the early 2000s when he left Japan to go and live in sunny California. He was drawn there by his love for the ocean and surfing.

Water and surf culture have been great sources of inspiration for Eque.M throughout his career as a designer. First, while working for existing Californian eyewear companies. Later, for his own brand Frency & Mercury which he founded in the USA in 2005. Now that he’s based again in his home country Japan and working for the first time under his own name, surfing is still on his mind. His latest collection for FW2021 is inspired by the 1980s surf scene. The colors of the frames and lenses reflect the colors of the sky over the ocean.  The shapes and details  echo the movements of the waves.

Japan has a rich history of making eyewear by hand and so of course Eque.M is making use of the knowledge and know-how that is available in his country. Each frame in his collection of optical glasses and sunglasses is made by hand by Japanese craftsmen. The unique design language of Eque.M is enhanced by the intricate detailing and use of high-quality materials, resulting in a collection that you won’t see anywhere else.

Trend break at Gucci

Trend break at Gucci

Gucci has a new designer and took a completely new course with the show in Milan. Alessandro Michele's opulent spectacles had made way for a sober classic show in which the models mainly showed chic designs with many references to the brand's rich archives

The designs were beautiful and, according to the experts, very skillfully made, the decorations consisted mainly of glitter and the colors were always stylishly combined into a harmonious whole that never shocked or caused big oohs and aahs. Of course, we also pay particular attention to the glasses. Frames were not shown anyway and far fewer models than before wore sunglasses and always the same, chic model. In short, Gucci opts for a completely new style and a striking trend break that we will undoubtedly also see in the (sun)glasses collections.

The new sunglasses from Silhouette

The new sunglasses from Silhouette

For this new series of rimless sunglasses from the SUN Collection 2023, the designers of Silhouette were inspired by the beautiful beaches and idyllic villages in and around Barcelona in Spain.

If you know Calella, Cadaqués, Begur or Bogatell and have been there before, reading this story will undoubtedly make you want to pack your bags and go there to enjoy the beach, sea, sun, terraces and that wonderful Mediterranean atmosphere.

The, as always with these eyeglass makers, subtle designs with this time large oversized lenses in seventies style give every outfit a little extra glamour and at the same time protect the eyes against harmful sun rays and intrusive paparazzi.
